Maxwell-Made

There have been a lot of changes at Maxwell Winery in McLaren Vale, less than 800m from Bellevue B&B.  There is an enclosed patio area where you can enjoy casual plates to share, while a totally separate dining room that serves a choice of two dégustation menus.

When we arrived at the venue we were offer two glasses of sparkling wine to enjoy before we were led into the air-conditioned dining room.

We were booked into their long lunch covering six courses along with the various finger foods totally around 12 courses.  Unwilling to choose one particular wine for lunch we decide to do the matching wines as well, this was a great decision.

All the courses were delicious, very hard to pick a favourite however the Monkfish matched with the barrel Fermented Verdelho and Duck with the Ellen Street Shiraz were standouts.

Duck, Carot, Vanilla, matched with 2016 Ellen Street Shiraz

All the food was interesting, beautifully presented and very well explained by the staff.

Monkfish, Nori and Potato matched with 2019 Barrel fermented Verdelho

Some of the entrée nibbles were very interesting but I won’t ruin the surprise.

Yoghurt, Blackberry Mocha, azelia 35%

Needless to say that there was more than enough food over a long lunch.
